The Cocopah Human Resources Department, established more than 25 years ago, is located in the Tribal Headquarters building on the West Reservation. This department works under the supervision of the Cocopah Tribal Council and works directly with the Tribal Administration Department.

The Human Resources Department oversees all hiring policies and procedures and employee attendance records. This includes the hiring processes for the Cocopah Casino, the Cocopah Korner, the Cocopah Bend RV and Golf Resort and the Cocopah Rio Colorado Golf Course. The department also maintains personal employee files, evaluates employee time sheets and reviews all applications.

Description:
Within the Residential Youth Home
Co-ordinates a variety of activities for the Youth Home. Provides care to youth ages 5 to 18 years of age. Works under the direct supervision of the Level II Caregiver and the Residential Director.

This is a specialized administrative & supervisory position in directing & participating activities to prevent the abuse of alcohol and drugs. The employee coordinates the outreach, nonresidential and client placement services. Supervision is exercised over paraprofessional counselors and clerical staff.


Qualifications:

  • A Bachelors degree in social service preferred
  • Certification of Substance Abuse Counseling
  • Must have a minimum of an A.A.
  • Must have at least three years of experience as a substance abuse counselor
  • Must have three years supervisory experience

Bioterrorism Coordinator

Description:
Within the Tribal Administration Department
This position is under the direction of the Tribal Administrator and primarily within the ADHS/BT grant program. The position as "Bioterrorism Coordinator" is with the ADHS format requirements and deliverable of Tribes maintaining a bioterrorism coordinator as the prime program contact between ADHS and the Tribe. The Bioterrorism Coordinator is responsible for managing, coordinating and implementing the ADHS/BT grant program directives for emergency response to public health issues. This position is dependent upon continued federal CDC grants.


Qualifications:

  • Higher education in the public health education field or past work experience preferred
  • 3-5 years in public health management activities or emergency management operations

Description:
Within the Finance Department
Under the guidance of the Tribal Administrator and the supervision of the Tribal Council, the incumbent will oversee the Finance Department of the Administrative Offices of the Cocopah Tribe and tribal businesses.

The Dispatcher/Clerk shall be under the general supervision of the Dispatch Supervisor and overall supervision of the Chief of Police.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

1. Once I have turned in my application, what is the review process?
Once applications have been reviewed, the Human Resources Department will invite selected applicants to an interview panel. The panel will comprise at least one tribal member and the appropriate department director.

The Cocopah Tribal Council will then receive the interview panel’s reviews of the applicants during its monthly regular council meeting, and based upon the recommendations of the panel, the Tribal Council will make the final decision.

The chosen candidate will then be notified. The hiring process can take approximately one month.

2. When is the best time to reach the Human Resources Department?
You can reach the department Monday through Friday
from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

3. I am interested in an open position at the Cocopah Casino. Where do I apply?
You may download an application from the Cocopah Casino website or pick up an application in person at the casino. Once applications have been reviewed, the Human Resources Department will invite selected applicants to an interview panel, where at least one tribal member and the appropriate department director will be present.

4. What are the Native American and current employee employment preference policies?
In accordance with applicable law, if two applicants are equally qualified for a position, the candidate who is a tribal member or Native American will be given preference. The Cocopah tribe works to enhance its resources, to improve the local economy and to improve the standards of living for tribal members.

Current employee employment preference states that if a current employee and a second applicant both apply for the same position and are equally qualified, the current employee will be awarded additional points by the interview panel.

5. I am interested in an open position, and it says the position is “at will”; what does that mean?
“At will” means that at any time, you or the Tribal Administration is free to terminate your employment with or without prior notice.

6. If I am hired for a position with the Cocopah Indian Tribe, will I be offered benefits?
After a 120-day training period, you will be eligible for life, medical, dental and prescription benefits if you are a full-time employee.
