2014-2016 Cocopah Tribal Council Sworn In

 Hundreds attended ceremony that was held in Council Chambers

     The Sovereign Nation of the Cocopah Indian Tribe held its swearing in ceremony for newly elected council members at 10 a.m. on Friday.
     Honorable Chairwoman Sherry Cordova, Vice Chairman J. Deal Begay Jr., and Council members Carlos Pereyra, Rosa J. Long and Edmund Domingues took the oath of office.
     Hundreds of tribal members attended the ceremony that was held in the Tribal Council Chambers. The event was broadcast on closed circuit television in the lobby of the Tribal Administration building and at the Cocopah Cultural Center.
     Judge Pro-Tem Sheila G. McCord swore in the Tribal Council.
     Tribal Elder Paul Soto gave the invocation.
     The Cocopah Indian Tribe held its election on July 11. Council members serve two-year terms.
     The Election Committee reports 340 tribal members cast their ballots that day, the highest in recent years.
