Learning to Play Peón at Cocopah

People and Culture

This video shows Cocopah students learning how to play the game. It is called peón in Spanish, and mi?uu? in Cocopah. Teams of 4 players compete in male, female, and youth categories. The mi?uu?/peón games are traditionally played at night around an open fire and have been known to continue past sunrise. Before the game starts, each player must go through a special ceremony.
