Cocopah Partners With Arizona Western College

News Releases

Tribal Council approves $10,000 contribution.

Cocopah Tribal Elder Paul Soto on Tuesday presented Arizona Western College with a $10,000 donation to help student athletes.
“Cocopah is committed to helping young people advance in their studies,” said Soto, adding: “This is our way of investing in the education of our tribal students who go on to college and other students in the community as a whole.”
The Cocopah tribe each year provides its students with the financial assistance to attend the college or university of their choice.
As part of this partnership with AWC, the college is providing Cocopah students with sports clinics throughout the year.
“We really appreciate the partnership we continue year in and year out with the Cocopah Indian Tribe and it’s Businesses,” said AWC Athletics Director Jerry Smith. “Because of the Cocopah’s generous support this season, our student-athletes will have an even better advantage to succeed in the classroom thanks to our continued partnership. What Cocopah provides to AWC Athletics, we hope to pay back with our camps and support back to the tribe and it’s businesses throughout the year.”
