Cocopah Students Recognized For Excellence in Education

More than 150 Cocopah students Thursday night received special awards and recognition.

     More than 150 Cocopah students Thursday night received special awards and recognition for academic excellence, attendance and participation in school activities.
     “I think we are all ready to move forward and succeed,” said Tribal Council Chairwoman Sherry Cordova in her welcoming address. “To all the students…continue to learn every day and use that in your everyday life.”
     Approximately 300 family members and friends joined 163 students for the 17th Annual Education Awards Banquet hosted by the Cocopah Education Department.
     Students ranging from kindergarten to high school graduates, including one college graduate picked up their awards for their accomplishments during the 2013-2014 school year.
     Among Thursday night’s award winners were: 87 kindergarten through 5th grade students; 33 middle school students; 43 high school students; 16 middle school graduates; eight high school graduates and one college graduate.
     The ceremony was held at the Cocopah RV and Golf Resort.
